Laugh It Off

There’s nothing to say

I woke up old again today

My skin is a husk

Instead of tooth there is tusk

I am a day become dusk

The day I was born

If I had known time was already wasting

I’d walk without pause

Prepared to suffer because

What is is always what was

This crepuscule will be something like life

It will fall into night

A wisp of love’s attendant demise

Drifting over

There’s nothing left to do but look at this view

And nothing I see except what’s before me

The path that leads us out to pasture

Out beyond where it bends

I hear the procession of people ends

In a gasp and a cough

A gulping head in a trough

I guess we just laugh it off

This crepuscule will be something like life

It will fall into night

A wisp of love’s attendant demise

Drifting over
